Breeding Goldendoodles By Doodle Planet
I am appalled at the idea of breeders breeding a Goldendoodle to a Goldendoodle Regardless of their reasoning...there just isn't any good reason for it. The entire idea of the Goldendoodle was to have a very low shedding, low dander hybrid that would work out well for those with allergies and/or who could not handle alot of shedding hair in a but needed a for assistance. The Australians created the Goldendoodle for this purpose by using one parent as the Golden Retriever and one parent the Standard Poodle. We have created Goldendoodles since 1999. Over the years, we have done a tremendous amount of genetic research regarding dogs in general.....regarding the issues with back-breeding, line-breeding and in-breeding. Alot of great information can be obtained from one site and that is http://www.canine-genetics.com as the site does discuss many of the issues that come from improper breeding. When one decides to purchase a Goldendoodle and then makes the decision to breed their Goldendoodle to another Goldendoodle....one needs to ask themselves WHY???? What is their goal for doing this? What are their intentions? What is their purpose? What is the goal they are trying to reach with the offspring of such a pairing? Our personal opinion is DON'T DO IT! Why??? Because this is not how a Goldendoodle is created and you are NOT going to have low shedding with the entire litter. A breeder who decides to breed two Goldendoodles together will have offspring that has "double" the genes either way. In order to know what the exact genetic make-up is for the offspring of such a pairing...the breeder would need to have a DNA profile created by VETGEN....a lab that assists with DNA work up. Their website is http://www.vetgen.com Such a profile would then tell the breeder how much Poodle and how much Golden Retriever is in each created puppy. This information would help the breeder determine who will shed more. A breeder who does NOT do extensive PEDIGREE research on their Goldendoodles they intend to breed may be creating offspring who will be at a high risk for genetic ailments should the two Goldendoodles be related either through the Golden Retriever or the Poodle. A breeder can say..."WEll...I purchased one Goldendoodle from one state and another Goldendoodle from another state, so how can they be related??" Are you kidding me? What you don't realize is that regardless of what state you purchased your Goldendoodle from....Golden Retrievers have been shipped all

over the United States through a variety of breeders (to include ourselves) who come from the same lineage or have shared or common lineage through the distant ancestors. Poodles dating back to the 1930s were shipped all over the world..including their semen...because Show breeders desperately wanted offspring from certain Champion lines. We actually researched our own Poodles' lineage and the furthest we were able to go was early 1930. This is because beyond that year....our Poodles' ancestors were scattered about Europe and it is very difficult obtaining pedigree information from European Kennel Clubs. We were able to research the Pedigrees of our Golden Retrievers up to a certain year as well because the Pekay Kennels either did NOT sell some of their puppies with registration documents or did not allow particular puppies to be sold with registration papers. We are not sure which. Pekay Kennels, so far that we know, is still in existance and began their kennel in 1960. They have created some of the most fantastic Champion Golden Retrievers in the United States. It is highly important for a breeder to research the pedigrees of their breeding dogs so that they can make important breeding decisions where their breeding stock is concerned. Breeders who just go out and buy two dogs and throw them together are making a horrible mistake! Those who jump on the doodle bandwagon believing there is money to be had, better think again.
There is alot of responsibility that goes with breeding dogs and there is alot of responsibility to those who buy the breeder's puppies. A breeder who does not do any research regarding their breeding dogs will, over time, have issues that will come back to haunt them. As with all live animals and breeding...all breeders, at some point and time in their breeding profession will have issues from time to time...this can not be avoided no matter how perfect a breeder believes themselves to be...but the AMOUNT of issues can be avoided by starting out on the right foot! If you are wanting to create Goldendoodles...do it the correct way. Don'T buy a Goldendoodle so that you can breed it. If breeding is what you have chosen your profession to be....and you enjoy Goldendoodles...find yourself a quality Golden Retriever and a quality Poodle. You'll be better off and so will the consumer who buys from you. More information can be viewed upon our own site at http://www.goldendoodleworld.com
